Job Description Summary

  • The caregiver provides high quality, compassionate healthcare to the residents while maintaining a home-like environment for the residents of Heartland Senior Living. This person also performs supervised tasks related to delivering health and personal care and activities to promote health, comfort, and maintenance of their functional ability and works towards meeting the resident specific goals outlined in their individualized plan of care.

  • Assists residents with personal care in accordance with the resident plan of care and as delegated by the Licensed Nurse. Including bathing oral cares, toileting, and repositioning/transferring, as well as other duties as needed.
  • Collects specimens, vital signs, assesses level of functioning, and reports/documents accordingly, as well as reporting to the Licensed Nurse in a timely fashion.
  • Performs safety and infection control procedures to ensure a safe and clean environment for residents and staff.
  • Works shifts as scheduled, minimizing call-ins, and reducing burden on co-workers.
  • Passes medications according to regulations.
  • Maintains proper compliance with all HIPPA rules, regulations, and confidentiality.

 

JOB FACTORS

Position Qualifications:

  • Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalency preferred. Minimum of 1-year experience in a long-term care setting preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Must have the ability to complete forms and records; and will be required to assist with lifting and transferring of residents as needed. Ability to understand federal and state regulations. Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Able to work independently.
  • Other qualifications/certificate/license: Must have current South Dakota Certification or valid certification from another state, or a certificate of completion on an OBRA approved training program. Must be able to fulfill the expectations of this position as indicated in the measures of effectiveness and meet the physical requirements of the position as defined in this role summary.
  • Technological Competencies: Basic computer skills preferred. Knowledge of electronic mail and Windows environment.

Position Requirements:

  • Prolonged or considerable walking or standing. Able to lift, position and/or transfer patients. Able to lift supplies and equipment. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and/or crouching. Visual acuity and hearing to perform required nursing skills.
  • Be able to tolerate exposure to elements including, but not limited to, odors, blood, body fluids, and excrements, adverse environmental conditions, and hazardous materials. Additionally, be able to work effectively in all climate settings, cold, mild, and heat.
  • Heartland Senior Living is an independently owned and operated assisted living community with 28 assisted living units and has requirements of a multitask environment subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work with mechanical lifts, telephone equipment, carts, wheelchairs, positioning devices, mechanical beds, resident beds, thermometers (digital, glass, tympanic), stethoscope, blood pressure equipment, and other resident care equipment as deemed necessary by supervisor.

 

Job Type: Full-time

Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week

Work Location: Heartland Senior Living Facility in Spearfish, SD

Pay: Determined upon experience, skills, education, and training.
