Every family’s hospice journey is deeply personal, and every story deserves to be honored.
Betty’s Box was created from one family’s love, gratitude, and desire to bring comfort to others during life’s most tender moments. Below, Betty’s family shares their story in their own words — a story of strength, grace, family, and the compassionate support they found through hospice care.
The Story of Betty’s Box ~ from her loved ones
“We are humbled to share Betty’s legacy and grateful for the opportunity to continue touching lives through Betty’s Box.
Please accept this small gift from the family of Betty Allen— lovingly known to us as GG.
During Betty’s final weeks, we were deeply grateful for the compassionate care of Heartland Hospice. In memory of our mom, grandma, and great-grandma, we created Betty’s Box to offer comfort to other families walking this tender path.
Betty was kind, loving, and incredibly strong. Though she grew up a city girl, she moved to a small town in Nebraska after marrying her husband Gil, where together they built a successful life and business. She worked tirelessly as a wife, mother, business leader, and friend.
An only child, Betty developed a passion for genealogy. She didn’t just collect names and dates — she uncovered stories. Some of our most treasured memories are of listening to her share them.
After 74 years in the same community, we moved GG closer to us. Though it was a difficult transition, she faced it as she did every challenge — with grace and a smile. Those final years together were a gift beyond measure.
GG lived to be 100 years old. For decades she walked three miles a day, stayed active, and embraced technology — responding quickly to texts and delighting in family photos. She lived through hard times but always chose gratitude, resilience, and love. Her greatest joy was being with her family.
When her health declined unexpectedly and we first heard the word “hospice,” we were overwhelmed. But Heartland Hospice became our guide, our comfort, and our steady presence. They showed us that hospice is not something to fear — it is compassionate support during a sacred time.
We will be forever grateful.
We hope this gift brings your family comfort and peace. In the days ahead, we gently encourage you to:
Reflect together. Record their voice. Tell stories. Ask about favorite memories and people. Share photos. Hug often. Say “I love you.”
We pray your family finds peace in the memories you create and cherish. God bless you on your journey.”
